September 2018 was illustrated for the Around the World desk calendar
"I always think of Around the World in 80 days when I think of hot air balloons." said Freddy.
"Freddy, you idiot," Rod said, "They don't even take a hot air balloon in the book."
"They do in the movie," said Freddy decidedly and with a certain tone that indicated he didn't even care of he was wrong with his association.
"Do they?" Chimed in Beryl with effort to engage. She was staring fixedly at the horizon line as she spoke. To anyone with intuition, one would have sensed that Beryl had been actually terrified into a frigid statue since they'd taken off from the ground and was willing herself to smile and laugh with her brothers for fear of breaking down entirely in sobs and begging to be let back down to the earth.
Freddy and Rod were not men of intuition.
Men even was a stretch of the imagination. But they were legally, she supposed. Even if they had been trying to woo the women of their dreams, they would never have caught onto the fact anyone was feeling anyway except how they were feeling. And right now, they were feeling on top of the world-- like kings-- flying above the earth in a golden throne balloon above the tops of Budapest. Their emotions were apparently being felt in such an exaggerated way, though, that had Beryl had been feeling herself she may have hit Freddy when he started to sing. He was a wretched singer, she thought to herself. Well, maybe he could sing quite well, actually. But she couldn't bare it this far off the ground. It was god-awful irritating when you think you might die and he went on singing his university march song. And then Rod chimed in at the end! Beryl would roll her eyes in the future she thought.
"Beryl!" Freddy boomed, "take a photo of Roddy and me!" he said and thrust her the camera. She slowly removed her sweaty grip from the basket and took the camera and mindlessly found them through the screen and snapped. Usually she would take a thousand and make them do several poses, but today. They got one snap before the camera was thrust back at them. "Thanks, Bea! You're such a sport coming up here with us!" Rod cooed affectionately. Still, entirely unaware of the murderous thoughts running through Beryl's mind. She didn't even respond.
"Coming into land on the harbor."
"ON?! The harbor!??!!?" Beryl said in a panic,
"Quite near it, ma'am." said the man who was flying- or driving- or piloting- or whatever it was called.
Beryl felt her throat go dry as they swung perilously close to the spires of a church and she heard a tree branch scrape the bottom of their basket. It was like they were moving 100 miles an hour! Her whole body was so tense. Meanwhile, Freddy and Roddy pumped their fists in the air and cried out, "woohooo!!!" as they started to see onlookers taking their photograph.
When they had landed, which they did somehow, Beryl practically melted onto the ground. She was exhausted.
Such is life with daring brothers she thought.
